Sports massage for runners in Brooklyn focuses on the muscles running works hardest: calves, hamstrings, hips and feet.

Your therapist asks about your weekly mileage, your next race and where you feel tight, then spends the session there. Book 60 minutes for one area or 90 minutes for legs, hips and back, at our Downtown Brooklyn or Bushwick studio.

What runners usually ask us to work on

Lower legs and feet

  • Calves and Achilles area after long runs or hills
  • Shins and the front of the lower leg
  • Arches and the soles of the feet

Upper legs, hips and back

  • Hamstrings and quads
  • Hips and glutes
  • Lower back, if long runs leave it tight

Timing your massage around training and races

  1. During a training block

Many runners book on a rest day or after an easy run, so firm work doesn’t clash with a hard session.

  2. Before a race

Book a few days out rather than the day before, and tell your therapist the race date so they can adjust the pressure.

  3. After a race

Give your legs a day or two first. A slower, lighter session usually feels better than deep work right after a marathon or half.

  4. Regular sessions

Some runners book every few weeks during marathon season. The five-session package lowers the price per visit.

When to see someone else first

Massage helps many runners feel looser, but it does not diagnose or treat injuries. If you have sharp pain, swelling, pain that gets worse as you run, or pain after a fall, see a doctor or physical therapist before booking (NCCIH on massage safety).

What clients say

“Had a swedish massage done by Delena. Very good and professional service. She asked beforehand about any special conditions and areas of focus. And also asked at various times during the massage if I wanted the pressure to be adjusted. Delena did a great job and I would come back!”
Chris Oh · Downtown Brooklyn · Google review
“I try out various massage spots but this one is a keeper. … Even during the massage my therapist made sure they were getting the spots I requested, offering to focus on those areas longer.”

Questions people ask

How much is a sports massage for runners?

It is our standard sports massage: $145 for 60 minutes and $198 for 90 minutes in Bushwick, $155 and $208 Downtown. A five-session package costs $550 in Bushwick and $560 Downtown.

Should I book 60 or 90 minutes?

Sixty minutes suits one or two areas, such as calves and feet. Book 90 minutes if you want legs, hips and back covered.

Can I get a massage the day before my race?

We suggest booking a few days before instead, so any soreness from firm pressure has time to settle.

Will it hurt?

Tight calves and hamstrings can feel intense, but it should not be painful. Tell your therapist if you want lighter or firmer pressure at any time.
